When I move to a new city, there’s always that initial panic of where on earth I’m going to get my hair done! I’m far from vain, but the fear of potentially walking out from a salon with green-tinted hair makes me anxious enough to want to find a great hairdresser that I trust! It’s not always the easiest thing to do here in Asia when hair types and colours are so different, so now that I have tried and tested this little gem on multiple occasions, I’m happy to share him with you all!

Thanks to some friends already living here in Busan, I found my way to ‘The Hair by Na’, nestled in the little winding road that takes you up to Hwangnyeongsan Mountain in the Namcheon area.

The owner, and sole hairdresser and stylist of this small but clean salon, is Choi Young-na. Having lived in London for three years and having studied at the Vidal Sassoon Academy, Young-na speaks fluent English and is also extremely knowledgeable about colouring, toning, and everything else.

A staggering 90% of his clients are expatriates here in Busan; with English teachers and people in search of a professional colourist, flooding his salon daily. He is open 6 days a week from 11am to 7pm. If, like me, you are free to get to him during the day, then he can normally fit you in with little notice, but he gets very busy in the afternoon and evenings when schools finish and the teaching staff need their hair doing!

It’s best to call in advance to get a booking then, once you get there, have a chat with Young-Na about your exact needs. He goes through everything you expect before he starts anything at all, which is very reassuring.

While the salon isn’t on the main street, it’ easy enough to find with some simple directions; the nearest metro station is 210 ‘Geumnyeonsan’ on line no. 2. From here, take exit number 6 and walk straight ahead. You’ll get to a crossroads with coffee shops on every corner. Turn right up the street where there is a Tous Les Jours. Follow the road up and around to the right and the salon will be on your right-hand side. There are several buses that go to that same junction, including the No’s. 20, 38, 39, 40, 51, 83, and 108.
